The best place to view through-traffic is from the footbridge over the level crossing on Ingram Road, right next to the Gillingham shed entrance. You can see into the shed yard as well as viewing all passing traffic. The usual stock nowadays (2008) is comprised of classes 375, 376, 465 and 466, with the occasional passing 365 unit or VSOE loco hauled train and very rarely a goods train headed by a class 66 (all the 508/2’s have now gone!). The parking tracks at the far end of the shed can also be seen from Woodlands Road by looking up by the bridge, although the view is partially obscured by foliage.
The only stock which cannot be seen from the footbridge is the occasional unit which terminates at Gillingham station before returning to London. It is necessary to go onto the platforms to view these units. The parking tracks beside the line near the entrance to the dockyard spur is now usually empty, except for the occasional track machine. I am not sure if this spur is now even used at all, as it is very overgrown.

There is a good viewing position at the end of platform 2. If you like 400s then platform 3 or the odd 375 or 66 and 67 pulling veps, cigs or ceps to scrap on platform 1 there are the strood terminating trains it might be a 400,465,508 and 375 down the line towards faversham there is some trucks in the siding just by them trucks is a branch line that goes to the dockyard further up the line is the shed in the shed is two 376s on testing just after the sheds is more sidings where they keep most of the trains that terminate at gillingham.
