This location (which is where the mainline to Swansea, Shrewsbury/District Line meet) would have been a hive of activity during the 1980's but now unfortunately the only freight to be seen here are now are the twice daily Trostre steel trains, Robeston oil tankers and stone workings to Waterston

The best location to view Llandeilo Junction is on a roadbridge directly over the junction which can be reached by following signs directing you to Penclacwedd Wetlands trust and by following this: (If travelling from the M4 motorway) to leave at junction 48 and head towards Llanelli on the A4138. Continue straight on this road (passing 2 roundabouts and 2 sets of traffic lights) until you come to a roundabout with a McDonalds restaurant directly in front of you (you wont miss it!) and take the A484 road to the left. When you come to the first roundabout take the first right and carry on down the road to the right where you will cross the first railway bridge, carry on straight where you run parrallel with the line into Trostre and eventually you will come to the bridge.

Passenger wise it is usually Arriva Trains Wales 150's, 153's and 158's (with the occasional 142 and 143 usually on weekends) and there is one HST to and from Paddington a day. Expect to see one passenger West an hour at around quarter past to 25 past the hour and one passenger East an hour at around the hour mark.

Although it is a relatively narrow road it can be reasonably busy with the wetlands trust nearby so make sure your car is parked off road. There are no shops in the immediate area.

Note: Occasionally on weekdays the 2 Trostre steel trains are being worked by top and tail locos (usually 2 60's) and come from the main Swansea rather than the freight only District line as a result of major engineering works, usually you would see this train to the extreme right of the bridge (when looking west) when it comes via the District line but now the train will pass directly under the bridge and reverse to where trains would normally come from using an adjacent relief loop. When top and tail the train also works an hour or so earlier than its scheduled time to account for the manouvering.
