This six-platform station is the terminating point for a majority of services using the North Kent Lines, in addition to serving trains from Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and even Hastings. The station was partially rebuilt by British Rail in the 1980's when the 1906 overall roof was dismantled and a large office block built in its place. The trains which use Charing Cross are nothing unusual, generally consisting of the well-known Class 465 and 466 EMU units, long-distance services usually being formed by 4 VEP slam-door units or the more modern Class 375 'Electrostars'. Platforms are separated from the concourse by means of ticket barriers and all good food and toilet facilities are provided. Fortunately, the 'Charing Cross Hotel' and original station concourse still exist, thus the magnificent architecture can still be viewed. Parking is very restricted and a £5.00 charge has to be paid to even enter the capital by car, thus train is the best option for reaching Charing Cross.
