Atherstone now features an hourly service each way courtesy of LondonMidland using their excellent desiro units.
Pendolino's pass by roughly every 5 mins.
As for freight you will see everything that passes through Tamworth low level.
These include Freightliners,Intermodals, parcel trains(325 units) & the odd stock or charter movement.
Loco classes seen here on a daily basis are 66,86,90,92 with sometimes the odd 47 & the 60 on the Willesden-Tunstead cement working.

There are two shelters with seating, one on each platform.
Next door to the station is a supermarket & petrol station.
No doubt there is a chippy in Atherstone too.
There is a free car park with spaces for around 9 cars but usually yours will be the only car there as the station is in the town so people walk there.

Atherstone Station is on the Trent Valley Line on the Staffordshire/ Warwickshire border.
According to the Plaque at Atherstone Station the elegant station buildings were restored in 1985. Sadly since then they have slowly been allowed to deteriorate again and the service that stop at Atherstone ( run by Central trains ) have near enough gone with just a handful a day in each direction. The Building are very beautiful here and lots of pictures from Atherstone tend to have the building in somehow.

Atherstone won an award for the preservation of its station building, but times have moved on. A small car park (about 16 cars) gives level access to the southbound platform, but only a modern high steel overbridge (high to clear the electric train power catenary) will get you to the other side. The station building is now in separate hands - though it does back on to the platform, where it has been treated to mindless graffiti. Two bus shelters are the only theoretical shelter from the elements, but these have been grimly vandalised and are useless. Trains call every 2-3 hours

Town and Shops are a short walk from the station ( turn right from station into Long Street ).

Virgin and Central Trains pass through and call at the station. With Frightliner, DRS, GBRF etc calling through too.
