The place to be for Southern & South West Trains. Personally I like platforms 9, 10,11 & 12.

It's great for your 377's, 442's, 444's 450's 455's, 458's & 159's too. Definitely a place to go for peak hours. You may need your binoculars if you are after 378's.

In terms of food there is a Lidl within 5 minutes walk and an Asda if you want to walk just a little further. They both sell cheap food although not hot.

There is a toilet on the station but you have to pay for the priviledge. You may want to use the toilet at Asda?

Great place if you want DC units, but not much else. All classes operated by SWT including the 158,159 & 170's, Southern 319,455,456 & 377's (you will need to go to East Croydon or London Bridge for the 171's) Gatwick Express 460's and Silverlink 313's. Only occaisional freight trains pass through here now, unless you are really lucky and there is a diversion on, normally weekends. A couple of Virgin Voyagers are booked through each day, normally 220's but sometimes a 221, although I do believe these services are to be axed soon. Sometimes if you are lucky you may see one of the steam specials.

There are barriers on the station entrances so a valid ticket will be required. Hot food and drinks available on the platforms and in the subway, where you will also find the toilets.

I frequently visit Clapham Junction. Apart from the units there a several freight movements with class 66's EWS / GBRF which come through Platform 17 and over the far side Platforms 2-5 to access the slip to either Wandsworth Road or Kensington Olmpia

There are occaisonal Virgin Voyagers on the Brighton service one goes through Platform 17 to the north at about 1010 during the week

In the middle shed the preserved Queen of Scots Set can normally be seen

There are normally two 37's stabled over by the Reading lines in the sidings

An also ideal place to photograph the last two working 73's on the Gatwick Express

And lastly on a good day there are always the Steam Specials from Waterloo or Victoria or the Orient Express given the right destination.

If looking for hot food walk up Lavender Hill past Asda about 50 yards there is a very good cafe called OK YA which is open early morning to about 3am

Nearest Car Park is ASDA but this is now a pay car park which is about £2 hour
