The problem with the NRM is their negative attitude towards diesel and electric traction.
The two main halls are pretty much full of steam loco's. In the "Great Hall" there is only a Class 31, Protoype HST Powercar, electric 26020, and the protoype Deltic. Pretty much everything else is stationary kettles.
There is a 52 and a 40 in the tent, but they are in a poor position for viewing.

It's now really easy to get to the NRM from York station. Follow the signs to the western platforms and keep walking across the footbridge and turn right. Walk down the steps and follow the path to the entrance of the NRM.

There are lots of exhibits to see. There is alot of steam but also other stuff to see. There is a Bullet train carriage. A segment leftover from the construction of the Channel Tunnel, Royal train exhibition, signalling, viewing platform overlooking York station and loads more.

There is always an impressive line up around the turntable and there is stuff for the children too. Well worth a visit. AND IT'S FREE TOO!!!!!!!
