A delightful spot featuring a Fen rarity - a bridge!

This is place where the Peterborough - March line crosses the 16 Foot Drain just before Three Horseshoes and offers some nice shots for the photographer. Trains from the west approach up a long, steady grade whilst those from the east come round a sweeping curve. Whittlesea's Down Distant and Three Horseshoes' Up Distant as both visible so some warning of approaching trains is given. The bridge itself is quite photogenic. The area teems with wildlife including Marsh Harriers and Kingfishers.

To get there, you want the Peterborough - March via Whittlesey road and turn off for Turves just before/after Coates. Go down this road for about 1 mile until you come to the bridge on a bad corner. Go down the dirt track through the right hand arch and you can park on the river bank. The sun will be behind you all day from the south side of the line.

Be warned - no amenities of any description, not even a shop!

Wednesday is the best day to go with anything up to 15 freight trains between 0900 and 1700, although this is about to increase dramatically with the imminent opening of the new Whitemoor Yard. As it is, you will see Shed's belonging to GBRf, EWS and Freightliner. 60's are quite common as much of the traffic is block stone trains and these are quite heavy. Passenger traffic is Central 156/158/170 and Anglia 150/153 and occasionally 170 with about 4 trains per hour.
