Swansea High Street Station is managed by Arriva Trains Wales and comprises of 4 terminus platforms, now of which have ticket barriers in order to gain access to the platforms.
Up until the end of the TPO era, Platform 1 saw the TPO stock stored there, until ready for their evening service to Willesden PRDC. Traction was a Class 47 or Class 67.
Platform 2 hosts the FGW HST from London Paddington, whilst platform 3 and 4 would normally serve any ATW service. In modern days there is no real platform structure for services arriving at the station.
Swansea used to be a great place to see loco traction including Class 08, 33, 37 and 47's. Nowadays it's mostly FGW HST, 180's and ATW 142, 143, 153, 150, 158's. Occasionally a SERCO unit comprising of a Class 31 or 37 T+T, will pay a visit to the station.
At the end of the platform's you can see what remains of the Maliphant stabling point, which was a bustling stabling point in the late 80's, comprising of Landore's first generation DMU's and TPO stock.
Facilities at the station are excellent, to be expected for any mainline terminus station.
The station lies within the City Centre, just a short walk to the main shopping centre.
The station front has recently seen some redevelopment, with a 5 star Hotel opposite being reopened. Therefore the taxi rank outside the station has been moved to the old short term car park, and the short term car park moved across the main road.
