Barnham is a busy station on the west coast line between Brighton and Portsmouth. It is the hub for Southern services from London via both Hove and Horsham, Brighton, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. As can be expected the main movement is their class 377's, but South West Trains also operate through here with class 450, 170 and 159's, along with Alpha Line 158, 159 and occaisional 150's. Unfortunatly loco workings are very few and far between, normally only taking place during engineering works.
A feature of the station is the signal box which still has it's old equipment, some of which is still used for the semaphore signals on the branch to Bognor as well as some of the point work. The home signal on the up line from Bognor is also interesting being a junction home with an additional calling on arm with a C. (See also reviews for Bognor, Littlehampton and Arun Valley stations). In the engineering siding just to the east of platform 3, a yellow and black shunting disc can be found. Not too many of these around now, especially down here in the south. Only other one that I am aware of was at Canterbury West in Kent, along with it's overhead signal box.
