Woking's main traction is mainly 3rd rail stock such as VEP's, Wessex's and Desrios as well as 159 and 170 diesel units for the West of England Line. Very few freight at Woking than in years previous, if any mainly oil and stone traffic with 59 and 66's, plus the odd occasional freightliner traffic to Southampton Docks with Class's 57 and 66. Most likely to see 73109 at Woking as its the "thunderbirds" usual home. VSOE Pullman and Mid Hants Daylight Tours are the usual steam vistors to Woking. The best vantage point at Woking is at the end of platform 5, with good views of the yards and a good approach towards the london direction of the station and the signal box. Another good spot is Tin Bridges at the far southern end of the station which give you clear views of the South Western Main Line and the Portsmouth direct Line which two individual bridges cross, which give excellent views of both lines and of the surrounding area.

Woking is a good place for seeing the third rail units. Also if you go down to the bay on platform 3 (the new bay) some good shots are available. Also over on platform 5 there is good scope for shots coming in towards London. Woking also benifits from regular visits from steam from the Mid hants line
