Great for spotting freight traffic, if you want something to eat visit the "Vale of York Pub" close to the station. This pub has a log fire in the winter, serves real ales and also offers bed and breakfast accomodation for arround £30 to £35 pounds a night (though the last time I stayed here was about 5 years ago so prices may of gone up.

Thirsk station is about 1.5 miles from the Town Centre, services are provided by Northern Spirit with GNER and Virgin Cross Country passing throu. Picture oppurtunities are only really available of trains heading south as the road bridge lie immedietely south of the station.

Train journey times

Northallerton takes just 8 minutes
Manchester Piccadilly - 1 hour 50 mins approx

During the winter this can a very cold station and with no local amenties for over 1 mile its not exactly much fun.
