Regular visitors to the Immingham area will know where this is but, if you don't and you fancy a change of scenery to Barnetby or Melton Ross, then try this out.

Firstly, there is nothing there - 1 farm, 2 houses and a station, long closed. However, the signalbox, mounted at low level on the platform, is very interesting, if not unique. The only box I've seen where you go down steps to get in! No semaphores anymore.

You can park right on the bridge, which is very useful, the parapet is low, you can see when something is coming by squinting at the panel in the box and can hear the bells when they have the windows open.

Traffic is the same as Barnetby but, since they've relaid the Slow line, all trains into Immingham pass behind the station on a new track, trains coming out use the Up Grimsby, which is signalled bi-directionally, whilst Down Grimsby's have a track all to themselves. Also, the curve coming out of Immingham Docks is monstrous, a full 90 degress. Photographic opportunities are excellent in both directions with the added interest of the junctions in your pictures. Unfortunately, by about midday, the sun has gone round and shots to the west are difficult. So a move is recommended, either to Melton Ross or Barnetby, or take the dirt track that runs down beside the houses on the Barnetby side of the bridge, follow it quite a way down until you come to a junction. Turn right and you come to an occupation crossing called Push Pole Crossing. Cross the line and there are good photo locations on this side, sun behind you.

There is a good, very cheap Chinese chippie (open lunchtimes) and a shop in Ulceby village, about a mile away.
