Llanelli Station lies just south of the main town, just a short 10 minutes walk.
At the east end of the platform there is a footbridge, from where you can see the remains of the Llanelli Stabling point. The loco shed still stands, however most of the track work has been removed. During the 70's and late 80's, this was a busy stabling point for Class 08, 37, 47 and 56's which served the local coal collieries, Milford Haven Refineries and Trostre Steel Works.
Since Railway Privatisation, FGW operate a few HST services from London Paddington to Carmarthen (via Swansea High Street). Arriva Trains Wales operate services mostly from Swansea to Carmarthen and stations further west, not to forget the Heart of Wales line where the train arrives from Swansea, then reverses at Llanelli and head towards Trostre Steel Works and the line leading to stations mostly to Shrewsbury, but sometimes to Crewe or Bangor.
Traction includes 142, 143, 150, 153, 158 in the form of DMU. During the summer peak season ATW operate a Class 37/4 service from Rhymney - Fishguard Harbour (via Avoiding Swansea Line) - Service Terminated January 2006.
Freight traction can still be seen, but mostly on trips to Robeston Refinery in Milford Haven. Traction mostly Class 60 or 66.
Trostre Steel Works is situated 5 minutes drive east of the station towards Swansea. Steel haulage is usually handled by Classes 60 & 66.
Parking is free either side of each platform, with a manned ticket office. No catering facilities, however there are cafe's and a hotel nearby.
