Whilst agreeing with both previous posters,a walk to the Depot can be worthwhile for the views of Knights Rail on left, which can throw up interesting sightings since its new lease of life.A walk down the perimeter fencing of the Depot can be hit or miss..the fuelling area at the front can be seen, the shed doors may be open and the stored engines at the rear can be seen.

There tends to be more moved about at the rear now and Eastleigh now maintains a lot of coaching stock that was dealt with at Old Oak Common prior to closure that can be recorded with bino's at various points as you walk down..Martin Harrison

This depot is like Fort Knox.
You cannot see ANYTHING,apart from stored shunters at the back, and the stored 58's at the front as you walk down the road to it.
There are two sets of fences around the depot, and even if you can see over one,you can't see over the other. You can hear the loco's,but you cannot see any
Also, you will never get round.I am a railway employee, and was decked out with safety boots and hi viz vest, and they wouldn't entertain letting me round.
You have to communicate with the depot personnel through a telecom box,at an electrically operated gate.
If you need a specific loco, which is ''on shed'' there, forget it,as you will NOT see it.
Sorry for a gloomy report, but this is exactly as it is there.

This has allways been a difficult depot to view form a public area and now even more so following the erection of wooden panels. The only way now is to continue past the depot and turn right and down an unmarked service road and right again. This latter service way is between a row of houses and the depot fence. The only things you can see is the backend of the scrap line and if you are lucky the depot pilot. The directions to the depot are as follows; turn left outside the station and then left into Campbell road. This leads you over the railway [ please note the bridge has sharp bends so extra care is needed ] The depot is further down Campbell road on the right. [ The works yard can be viewed on the left ].Their is however one other place to view the depot.Instead of turning into Campbell road continue straight down until you see a car park on your left between the road and the railway.Pull in.The depot can be seem with bins.Note this is a endon view.
