There are three stations at Barry: "Barry Dock, Barry Central & Barry Island". All passenger services originate from Barry Island to Cardiff Central which sometimes continue on to Hereford, Newport or Birmingham. All services are operated by Arriva Trains Wales in the form of DMU traction 142, 143, 150 & occasionally 158.
Barry Central station is probably the best viewing point, as this is where the line splits to Barry Island and then to the Vale of Glamorgan Line. Adjacent to the station is the old Barry Depot and Stabling point, which is now occupied by the "Vale of Glamorgan Railway".
Barry still sees a number of Freight workings passing through, including Coal and Oil workings from Aberthaw Power Station. You'll mostly see Class 60 & 66 traction these days, and if you're lucky the occasional HST which has been diverted from the main Swansea - London line.
Free Car parking is available outside the station, with catering facilities on the main road. There is a station buffet, but with limited opening times.
