Brief update on parking at STJ. APCOA have recently taken over the car park and now charge a modest £2.80 for parking. BUT beware - there are insufficient parking places to accommodate all users and if you park outside designated bays you will be ticketed (£60 is penalty fee). There are lots of good looking looking places to park within station car park but if they are not surrounded by a white box don't park there. Best bet is to park the other side of the road bridge where you can park free of charge in a Gwent CC car park. Two minutes walk to station.

This is a good freight viewing spot.

In 3 hours I spotted 4 60's & 4 66's. There is also the procession of HST's, Pacers, Sprinters & Turbostars.

The best spot is at the severn tunnel end of platform 3. If you see a freight train heading westwards, go back along platform 3 towards the footbridge and you will see a small platform area jutting out towards the westbound freight avoiding line which puts you against the train as it passes.

There are no facilities here.

From the M4 take Junction 24 and follow the A48 towards chepstow. Just after the village of Langstone turn right onto the B4245. Continue until you reach the village of Rogiet. The station is sign posted from here.

NOTE :- since the remodelling of the station to make it 4 platforms, higher then usual platform end fences have somewhat restricted long distance views. You can still get a long view from the footbridge at the station looking towards the river severn but the view towards newport is restricted by a nearby road bridge
