There are two stations at Wakefield - Westgate and Kirkgate.
Westgate is the main one with GNER,Virgin,Northern Spirit and North Western calling. Freight is almost nil. Buffet and toilets are available. Kirkgate is a 2 min train ride away and sees Northern Spirit and North Western passenger services along with a fair amount of freight heading to/from Healey Mills and using the avoiding lines towards Doncaster and Leeds/York. Facilities at Kirkgate are nil but a corner shop and chip shop are nearby. If you travel to Leeds from Kirkgate you pass Stourton FLT and Midland Rd FLT depot. Healey Mills is between Kirkgate and Huddersfield but is best viewed travelling from Hudds to Kirkgate. A service operates from Westgate and Kirkgate to Knottingley every hour (some change at Pontefract).
A West Yorkshire day rover is good value.
