Sidcup lies on the 'Dartford Loop Line', a third North Kent route to the capital built by the South Eastern Railway to relieve congestion. A two-platform arrangement, the station was subject to a rebuild by British Rail in the late 1980's and the replacement building at least has some style. Similar to most stations on any of the three North Kent routes, there is little variety in passenger motive power, the Class 465/466 units now monopolising services. Only the occasional freight service between Hoo Junction and Hither Green breaks the monotony, although these workings are now dominated by Class 66 diesel locomotives.
