Stockport is great if you are into units, DMUs are usually Class 142/150/156/158, of course you get the usual Virgin stuff which is borring ! Freightwise, stone traffic, and GMC Waste
The waste trains run at 14.00 towards Northenden and 21.00 towards Heaton Norris.
Durring the day there are a few light loco moves, though these can run at any time. On Fridays from July through to September you may catch the "Scarborough Flyer" at 08.20 on its way to the seaside town, durring 2011 this will be hauled by either Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Hamilton or Oliver Cromwell

Stockport Station is above the town and is open to the elements, wind and rain especially.
In the summer it is a good spot to catch the sun and is also under the flightpath into
Ringway if you are an aviation enthusiast. Food wise, now a small cafe in the station
near the booking office. If you can have the time for a walk I can recommend the
Chippy on Edgeley Precinct (RH Side towards the bottom), there is also a Greggs.

No one will bother you taking pictures providing you obey the usual rules; ie - not to go past the sign at the end of the platform.
The best places to get a bite to eat are within 10 minutes walk of the station if you like
good grub !
