Situated approximately 10 miles south of Exeter on GW main line to Plymouth/Torbay/Cornwall overlooking the estuary of the River Exe.
Car park next to the line about 200 yards north of station. Usually plenty of room. Charges apply 09:00 - 18:00 every day from Good Friday until October 31st. 2009 prices are either 30p for 30 minutes or 70p all day (yes - 70p all day). An all day ticket lasts for 24 hours from the time of purchase. There is a foot/cycle path between car park and line with seats at intervals facing the track & estuary. This extends almost down to the station.
Chip shop by station, but is closed all day Sunday/Monday and Tuesday lunch time, and is not easily accessible by disabled due to several steps. Post office, pub (untried) and estate agent opposite station. There is a "Londis" shop about 100 yards from the station along the main road towards Dawlish.
Public toilets also by station. These are closed overnight and all day Sunday due to vandalism. Disabled cubicle needs RADAR key.
Usual traction on line is class 142, 143, 150, 153, 220, 221, 43 & 66, and sometimes a class 60 or 67. There is very little freight in this part of the world & this is usually hauled by an EWS class 66. The Freightliner 66 worked Moorswater cement train now seems infrequent and sometimes works from/to Westbury and sometimes Earles Sidings. Freightliner now work PW trains in the area, plus the occasional stone train from Cornwall. DRS sometimes work trains to Devonport Dockyard & GBRf stock workings to/from Plymouth Laira.
It seems to be a reasonable place for photography.
A pleasant spot, but not really suitable for a family day out, as there is no beach, playground, arcade or shopping centre to amuse the children, wife or granny. Dawlish, 5 miles to the south, would be a better proposition for families. However parking next to the line there is more difficult, costs more and is time restricted during the day.
