Knottingley has it's busy days and it's quiet days. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are usally busy and Tuesdays and Thursdays quiet. Car parking is still free. If you are lucky you can sometimes see a Class 60 or two flying about. There is a nice chippie down the road.

Loads of Coal traffic, now unfortunately all hauled by 66's. Coal traffic runs as required and the scheme changes weekly therefore it is hit and miss.

The car parking is free, and for a few pounds you can get a train to Leeds, and pass Leeds Midland Road depot on your left.

This place has its ups and downs depending on were the coal is sourced from on the day of the visit, however there is usualy something happening if you are prepared to wait. It is a good location for phots and the depot is close at hand. Given a good day there is a constant stream of coal trains with either 56s,60s or 66s on the EWS trains or 66/5s on the Heavyhaul services. Other traffic passes the station and it is served by Northern Spirit on the passenger front. There are no facilities at the station but a chippie and sandwich shop are close by as so is a pub.
