Formerly served by two independent railway companies, Gravesend's remaining station lies upon the North Kent Line between Northfleet and Hoo Junction. It is a fine piece of Victorian architecture consisting of two platforms separated by four lines. The two central tracks are through lines used by freight trains and stock which is out of service, whilst the platform roads are used for both terminating trains and those continuing onto the Medway towns. There is a uniform lack of passenger train variation and the occasional passing freight makes a welcome change to the railway scene. Ticket barriers are not present, toilet facilties are and the ticket office is open most of the day. Remnants of the former 'Gravesend West' Station are still evident and one can venture to the town's border with the River Thames to view the elevated track bed of the long-gone line.
