As recorded by 31B,but if you are a worker on the Railway or Retired railway worker there is a club .L.M.R.C.A just outside the station building but you have to be a member.

Quite an interesting place to spend a day but with all of the usual WCML drawbacks.

Five through platforms and a bay used by the Thunderbirds. Very few stopping trains ever use the Mainline platforms, all of the units using 3/4 on the Slow lines. Platform 5 is used by the Bedford units.

In the morning, the north end of Platform 4 is best. The sun gets round at about 1130 so a move is then required to the south end of Platform 3. This is great as there are seats right at the platform end, a rare comfort.

There is a large yard to the north of the station on the Up side, used as freight laybys and for wagons bound for the spoil tip at Stewartby. There are probably about half a dozen trains a day use this branch, a bit of added interest, which involves lots of shunting and running round. The depot is not visible form the station (or barely so) as it is hidden behind the bank for the disused flyover.

Facilities on the station are pretty sparse. You have to go through the barrier every time you want the toilet and there is a shop but this also is through the barrier, which is permanently manned. If you want hot food, there is a shopping centre just under the railway bridge and across the road with several good, cheap cafes and restaurants.

Most of the interesting stuff is on the Slow lines so you can generally concentrate on them but they do occasionally slip something down the Main. The flyover gets in the way a bit for photography but this is not a big problem.

The station has a large, pay car park but, rather than pay for that, I usually park at one of the little stations on the Marston Vale line for free and catch the 150 unit in, costing about the same and little train ride thrown in.
