Skipton is mostly served by class 333's which take most of the Leeds and Bradford services. 156's haul most of the Carlisle and Morecambe trains but 144's and 142's are regulary seen, mostly on the latter. Class 60's and 66's are regulary seen on the Tilcon services which turn off at Skipton on to the branch line. 60's and 66's also haul the Gypsum services. The biggest ammount of freight through the station though is coal traffic hauled by EWS or Freightliner 66's.

The station has 4 platforms, platform 1 being a bay and the other 3 being through. Platform 2 has a snack bar for food.

Photographs of the station are best taken off the bridge North of the station 100 metres walk away.

The nearest pub for food and drink is Herriots which is positioned right opposite the station.
