For detailed information on how to see the shunters at Boston (which are normally locked up out of sight in the no-go docks area), see www.shunterspot.com

Dave omits to mention that, either side of the level crossing leading to the bridge, are the only existing GN Somersault semaphores I know of and the only octagonal signalbox I've seen either. Well worth a look!

This station is on the Nottingham- Sleaford-Skegness line.
It normally only sees Central DMU'S but there are two freight flows. One is a regular working of imported steel from the nearby docks to Wolverhamton, usually a class 60 working. The other is stone to Boston for export from Mountsorrel. Both working come into the station area and reverse to the docks.

A small stabling point adjacent to the station houses DMU's overnight with the occasional loco.

The station has easy parking and an excellent buffet serving
hot food and real ale.

The docks branch is fascinating with a swing bridge across the river. It is worked by privately owned 03 and 08 loco's,
sometimes doubleheaded.
