I'm very surprised to see that no one has written an up to date review of St Pancras International.

There are 4 train operators at this terminus, Midland Mainline, South Eastern, First Capital Connect and of course Eurostar.

The staff on the South Eastern platforms will normally let you through the barrier if you want to get the numbers of the 395's, just wave your travelcard and spotting book at them. I have NEVER been denied access. You can walk to the end of these platforms and get a good view of all services leaving the station including MML & Eurostars.

For First Capital Connect you need to go the the below level platforms. If you are just after FCC stock you can use these platforms but you may prefer to spot at Kentish Town for a bit more variety and daylight.

In terms of amenities there are toilets which you do not have to pay for but there are always massive queues for the ladies. BE WARNED WOMEN!

There are plenty of eateries catering for most palates but you may prefer to take a short walk down to shops in Grays Inn Road where prices are more reasonable.

London St Pancras is currently undergoing MAJOR re-building work, to make way for the new Eurostar Tunnel Terminal, therefore only four platforms were in operation on the day that I visited, although I counted at least 13 new platforms under construction.
A Midland Mainline station, so plenty of HST's 221's and 222's when I visited albeit very briefly.
Plenty of food outlets and of course London is just outside the doors!
I found the staff very freindly and helpful, and had no problem accessing the platforms the day I visited.
The one thing that amazed me was how light and airy the whole building was, ideal for non-flash photography which seems to be the main bugbear in most stations these days!
A station for the 21st Century, an ideal spot in times to come!
My rating 8½/10.

I have visited St Pancras several times this year and have been stopped and questioned by private security staff on almost every occaision " what am i doing at the end of the platform" even though i was on the correct side of the do not pass sign .
On two occaisions I was asked to leave the platform " As I was a security risk"? although they could see me taking numbers i might do something else as well?.

The station was served by Class 43 HSTS of mixed stock ex Virgin and Midland Main Line with a few Midland Mainline 170's.

I have never found the station that busy you can wait up to an hour for movements, and now with added hastle from security staff I stay well away.

There are the usual bakery style and cafe style refreshments on the platform, and one pub, however if you walk out into the main road there are several cafes and Macdonalds just beyond Kings Cross Stn.

One other point of note is there is a cafe in the closed St Pancras Hotel ( the original hotel for the station which is the building you can see from the main road) come out of station and small metal fenced gate on right, ring bell.. open i think 10-4pm ish Mon - Fri.
They also do a facisnating tour of the hotel for about £5 on Saturdays.
The hotel is left how it was when it closed and takes you back to when central heating was not invented and how life was in the early 1900's.It has been used for numerous films as well.
I understand it will be reopened in part as a hotel about 2007 when the new international rail terminal is open.
