See my review of Glasgow Queen Street in terms of amenities.
Trains run between Drumgelloch and Springburn to Balloch, Helensburgh Central and Milngavie. Normally you will see 334's and 320's.
You must have a valid ticket to get onto the platforms but I would not recommmend it for photography or spotting as there is a huge wall separating the platforms and you can only see trains on the opposite side from the ends of the platforms. You are much better off heading out to Partick.
