what can i say what was once the heart of the rail network and busting with locos is now nothing more than a cold dismall and depressing place to be.
plenty of voyager and pendillionos to be seen but not much else of interest.
i usually like to get out of new street as quick as i get into it.
shame as had some happy times there.

New Street well it is dark and if you spot there regularly them you will get class 390 170 220 221 323 350 150 (weekends on the Chase Line )158 and sometimes the odd ex silverlink 321 the big problem is that you need to move around quite a bit to get everything ive spotted here every saturday since december never had any problem with any station staff best place to stand is at the end of platform 8a most things pass through on the downside its overcrowed dark no freight and once you have all of the above classes then nothing new to see dont buy any food there its more expensive than harrods

Probably the most uninviting stations any where. A concrete mess, with dark and dingy platforms. Not good at all for photos as the light is so bad. All units, though there was a Thunderbird stabled in one of the through roads. Watch out for the platform staff. One tried to tell me Network Rail didn't allow photos to be taken at any station. Didn't have a lot to say once I told him I was railway staff and he was talking out of his butt! Ticket inspectors on the barriers during the evening peak, and I guess morning as well. They had gone by 19:00. I do believe this station is to be updated soon. Best thing they can do is demolish it and start again.

New Street is a horrible, dark, concrete mess of a station, dominated by units. It is perhaps amoungst the worst stations in the country for the locomotive trainspotter.

Always busy is Birmingham New Street. I have found the best platform is 6 and 7 as you are most likely to get most stock.

There are Voyagers galore, the odd Pendelino and loads of Centro 323's, 150's and also Central 170's.

Have never had a problem with security but I know some have.

In terms of eating there are quite a few fast food places and there is a Sainsbury's supermarket a short distance away. Ask for directions, it worked for me.
