The freight yard beside the station has been taken out of use and lifted as of early 2008 for re-development as offices. Rail-Road freight movements (usually class 66) are now handled at the re-instated 'down' sidings, complete with new container crane, opposite the cement sidings aprox 1 mile south of the station. This means you can no longer expect to see freight movement at the southern edge of the station. On the station during the day you can expect to see a few NXEC class 43, plenty of 170s on Edinburgh / Glasgow services, class 158s on Inverness services, and a class 67 in Clayhills sidings in readiness for the coming evenings sleeper service. A little further North, a new freight management facility has been constructed to the North of Dyce station. At the time of writing though there are no booked services to this facility, all operators to Aberdeen currently using the intermodal Rail-Road facility described above, apart from infrequent workings to the North docks on slurry trains for the paper industry.

Access to the station platforms is by ticket only, with automatic ticket barriers in place. Clayhills depot / sidings can be viewed side-on from the station's Southern platforms, or from the muti-storey car park on the Western side of the station which faces the facility end-on.

Restaurants, cafes and bars are plentiful in the city centre a couple of minutes walk out of the station.

From the station car park and platform you can view any EWS traffic in the yard and whatever is held in the GNER depot.

Mainly Turbostars 170, 158 units and Class 67 locos. Odd occasion a Freighliner or DRS Class 66 appears.

Plenty of places to eat and drink in town centre a short walk away.
