If you stand on platform 2b and look through the small gaps in the boards at the back of the platform, you're above the approaches to New Street, just outside the tunnels. Any train passing below with a number on the front or rear (so that's Pendlinos and Voyagers out then) can be identified.

You may get some strange looks from passengers and station staff, mind.

An open station with few facilities, only a five minute walk from New Street. Central Trains are the main operator with 150,s along with the half hourly Chiltern Trains service. Not too bad for photos, especially towards the ends of the two platforms. Steam loco is still here and the old terminus station is well preserved.

Currently, Birmingham Moor Street has just two platform faces serving a double-track through line from London to Snow Hill Station. The terminus area of Moor Street Station was closed by British Rail in 1987 when a truncated commuter service to Stratford-upon-Avon ceased. The terminus station was not demolished due to its grade II listed status and was left derelict for over a decade. In recent years the station has undergone a complete renovation and has been restored to its former GWR glory. A GWR Class 2800 can be found stabled in one of the terminus platforms, whilst Class 150 diesel multiple units are the mainstay of the through line to Snow Hill. Car parking is available underneath the shopping centre and Moor Street Station has a regularly open ticket office and coffee outlet.
