Please be aware that the shelters on the long platform have been removed, since they were only used by spotters. How bloody minded.
Leeds station is good for anyone who doesnt live near the ECML there are many trains such as,
Nortern-142,150,153,155,156,158 and 333s
EC-91s,43s
the odd EMT-43s
TP-170s and 185s
Not much freight at all passes through leeds any it isnt much good for photographing trains as it is fairly dark.
Before my visit I was warned that it was all units. This is correct. If you have holes in your 142/144/150/153/155/156/170/158/185 DMU'S or 321/333 EMU'S then this could be the place for you.
Station Staff were helpfull, giving me a Platform ticket, when explained I needed a fag break.
Food + Drink normaly stuff, plenty of cover if it were to rain.
When your used to London Bridge and Clapham Junc you are kept busy here.
Leeds is buzzing with activity, there are around 1100 trains a day.
Many many units, locos include HSTs and 91s. Theres the odd freight every now and then, 17 platforms, heated waiting room. Platform 6 at the Northen end is probably the best place, can get all the stuff coming in and out from the northen end, if your there for a few hours, expect around 80 numbers.
There are food and drink on the plaform, expensive though. Theres parking 2 miniutes away, (again expensive!), lots of shops in Leeds if you fancy doing some (yet again, can be expensive!).
If your a unit fan, Leeds is the place to be around Yorkshire!
Loco fans should give Leeds a miss, the only locos you should see a GNER 91s. The station has 17 busy platforms and lots of 142s, 143s, 150s, 156s, 158s, 220s, 221s & 333s & Euro Stars. Very few freights, if any, pass the station.
The station has just been re-furbished and the facilities are good. Buffet, toilets(free!) and plenty of units to see.
It is situated right in the centre of Leeds so if you get bored theres plenty to see and do outside the station. Train wise its mainly Northern Spirit units by the boatload but also GNER and Virgin and a few Midland Main Line HSTs.
If you get a Day Rover ticket you can pass Neville Hill depot , Healey Mills yard and visit Knottingley depot to add some locos to your lists as hardly any freight passes Leeds station. If its NL/HT units you want then Leeds is the place to go.
