The barrier staff at Cheltenham Spa station have now been told to refuse access to all train spotters. !!!!!
Ticket barriers have recently been installed but the staff allow spotters onto the platforms if you ask politely. There is a Pumpkin cafe on platform 1 and all the usual facilities nearby including a new Tesco, cafe, betting shop, Coop, and pub.
Best to park at the station where it currently is £3 per day or part of. You can access the platforms without any hassle and of course there are all facilities on the station. Expect about an average of ten trains per hour with fifty per cent being Voyagers. I cannot comment on area around the station as I did not explore it.
If you go to the stn you will find it has a really good spotting place.
When you pull into the car park opposite you is the old T.P.O depot which is now derelict. A really good place for voyagers (if you need any) same line as the Ashchurch line. You will see lots of engines on this very busy line. There is a newsagents for refreshments and rail mags.
A very good place to be.
