Newport is not as busy as it used to be with coal and steel traffic on the decline but freight does pass the station at fairly regular intervals. There is a loco stabling point at the Cardiff end of the station which is close to the platforms and can be also seen from the car park. ADJ yard is about half a mile from the station on the line to Cardiff. Its a good location for photos with the stabling point so close. Passenger wise its mainly FGW,W&B and Wessex trains. The station has a buffet/bookshop and the town centre is 2 mins away. The car park costs £4.60 per day.
