there is a class 66 what goes through sheffield midland station every day on the earls cement train or the stone empties it is always a 66/6 what they use and later on it comes back light engine. also on the odd times there as been a class 60 on it but these are very rare, there is the odd rail tour that goes through sheffield midland station and on some accasions there as been rail tours from sheffield but thats about all, to me there is too many units in a mainline station all you see is 158 or 150's or 142's and maybe the odd 156 plus you get the mainline HST to london but thats about all you see if I have missed out any units then sorry but I dont go down to sheffield now waste of time.

Sheffield station is kept busy with Northern Spirit , Central and North Western units along with Midland Main Line and Virgin but little freight passes through. As a main station it has all the facilities you would expect and the city centre is only a few minutes away. The SuperTram runs past the station and is connected to platform 6 by a walkway. A sizeable log of units will be got at Sheffield but if freight is what you want then Doncaster is 20-25 minutes away and Chesterfield is 15 mins away in the other direction.
If you are going by car then it is better to park at Meadowhall (M1,Junc34) where it is free and catch the train to Sheffield (5 mins)
