Great place for freight. I went on Monday 23rd August 2010. 12 x 66's, 158, 159, 165, 444, 450.
On the main line from London to Winchester, Eastleigh, Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth.
Very busy junction station. A couple of miles west of the station the line splits for Southampton or Salisbury, Exeter and beyond. From the north east the main line up to Reading branches off immediately after leaving the station heading towards London.
Plenty of EMUs (442/444/450 occasional slam-door units), DMUs (159/166/165/170, freight from EWS, GBRF and Freightliner, and Virgin 220/221s.
Both ends offer good vantage points for the spotter and the photographer.
Well worth a visit.
