Only about a mile north of Tebay, on a small country lane to Scout Green the road runs parallel with the WCML for a few hundred yards and has a hard verge that can be parked on giving good views in both directions, so ideal in inclement weather as you can stay in the car. Use the Tebay timings on Real Time Trains, plus or minus one minute.

Passenger trains are operated by Virgin, being Pendelinos on the Euston to Scotland expresses with the occasional Voyagers which are usually on the same service but via Birmingham. Also First Trans Pennine operate a Manchester Airport to Scotland service until recently class 185's but now almost entirely the new class 350's.
The only other passenger operator is Scot Rail with the Caledonian Sleepers, but obviously these only run during the night.

Also the Royal Mail trains run usually late afternoon and evening operated by class 325's

Freight are operated by DRS, EWS, Freightliner, and Colas and locos regularly used are class 56, 57, 66, 86, and 92's although class 37's and 70's can be see from time to time.
Freight trains are most prolific mid evening until earlier in the morning but there is a steady stream of freight in between the passenger trains during the day.

Most days also see some additional working of some kind whether it be charters, stock moves, light engine moves, etc.

The nearest facilities are in the village of Orton about a mile away. There is a public toilet in the village, and the Chocolate Factory (well worth a visit as the chocolates they sell are divine, and make a nice gift for long suffering spouses) has a café with toilets as well.
There is also a very good village shop and post office which makes home made sandwiches and cakes, as well as selling pork pies, pasties, etc.

Alternately the Westmorland Service on the M6 is only a few miles further on and is independent and won many awards, and has all the amenities you could want including an excellent farm shop.

Nearby accommodation to Scout Green is The George Hotel in Orton, plus numerous B&Bs or slightly further away The Westmorland Hotel near the services.
