At Liverpool lime street you mainly see DMUS.

The majority of theese are 142s,150s,156s,185s,350s and the pendolinos from London Euston,Coventry on a Sunday.

142s,150s,156s Do local runs to places like Manchester,Wigan North Western,Blackpool north,Warrington bank quay and a few other places.

The 185s do the Liverpool lime street-Scarborogh ,2 evry hour.

The 350 units do the liverpool - Birmingham new street run.

The virgin pendolinos do the liverpool - London Euston ,you very rarely get a class 57 dragging along the virgin pendolino.

For shopping in the station it is not up to much because there is only a whsmiths ,coffie shop ,burger king and a pub.

If you want to see all trains on platforms 1-6 you will have to have a ticket because they will not let you through. You are free to see platforms 7-9.The easyest way to veiw what is on platforms 1-6 is to stand on the top of platform 7 and hope that they go out

Reasonably respectable offering of units to be seen, although not particularly exciting – mainly DMUs.

Units to be seen regularly: 142s, 150s, 156s, 158s, 170s, 350s, 390s. Maybe some 185s sometime in the near future, although apparently they wont be appearing on the Liverpool bit of TPEX at first.

142s, 150s, 156s and the occasional 158 working the Northern Rail services east to St.Helens, Warrington, Manchester, Wigan, Preston, Stalybridge etc.

158s working the TPEX route.

170s and some 158s working the Central services to Nottingham, Norwich etc.

350s working the Central services to Birmingham (and beyond?)

390s working the hourly VWC to Euston.

Occasional 57s on Pendolino drags at the weekend.

Freight wise, probably not worth bothering. If you’re after freight and locos etc, a trip down to the sidings at Edge Hill and Tue Brook would be in order – no idea how you’d access those sites though, and you probably wouldn’t see very much.

Excellent viewing to be had at the far end of platform 7 in sight of the PSB and all trains entering/leaving the station (no ticket checks normally, but there’s a strong police presence throughout, so you may want to explain yourself first to avoid difficulty later).

Parking: 32 spaces available on short stay pay and display basis (Skelhorne Street entrance). 200 spaces available on long stay basis (Lord Nelson Street entrance).

Catering: contained within the station concourse are the usual over-priced versions of high-street chains, incl. Burger King, M&S Simply Food, WHSmith, Boots and a number of other gimmicky outlets.

Food: Nearest chippy is the one underneath Concourse House just in front of the station, but this will have been demolished by 2008, and in any case, is probably fairly dire. Instead try the Athena kebab place on Renshaw Street, or the Lobster Pot chippy / Subway sandwich joint (both on Ranlagh Street – five minutes walk away and opposite Central [Merseyrail lines] station). Also nearby are Wetherspoons, Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonalds (all on/near Great Charlotte Street).

Pub wise: give nearby ‘Crown’ and ‘New Penny Farthing’ a wide berth. Try the Head of Steam, which you can usually access from the station concourse itself – it’s near the station toilets and has a good selection of real ales.
