Limited food on the station, but with lots outside. Lots of DMS's 142/143/150/153/158/175 to be noted. I am told 60/66 locos but on the day I visited very low numbers.
Staff friendly. Good coverage if it were to rain. Well worth a visit.

platform 3 & 4 best for viewing any workings
parking facilities around the back of station in Penarth Road
Bus Station out the front.
Burger King Also out the front entrance
Nearest chip shop in caroline Street, also plenty of pubs near.
the only platform with catering facility now is platform 1, but there is one down stairs where you sit down in but this out of wiew of the platforms.
as for interesting workings at the moment 37425 in large logo livery working on the Rhymneys is highlight of the day

The station is kept busy all day with Great Western HSTs and 180s along with Valley Lines, Wales&Borders, Wessex Train services. Freight passes through but is not as frequent as it was due to the rundown of the coal and steel industries in South Wales. There are 3 daily 37 hauled passenger trains which pass through. There are good facilities for food and drink at the station.
TOP TIP : The staff are keen on the ticket barrier so if you are going out of the station more than once or want to keep your ticket then use the lifts to exit the station.
Car Parking in the station car park is £5 (or was a month ago) so you may consider parking at Newport station (£4.60) and catching the train to Cardiff to see whats at ADJ yard.
